color: currentcolor;"><path d="M19.999 4h-16c-1.103 0-2 .897-2 2v12c0 1.103.897 2 2 2h16c1.103 0 2-.897 2-2V6c0-1.103-.897-2-2-2zm-13.5 3a1.5 1.5 0 1 1 0 3 1.5 1.5 0 0 1 0-3zm5.5 10h-7l4-5 1.5 2 3-4 5.5 7h-7z"></path></svg> 1,307マイル （2100km） を2日で走破した </figcaption> <p></p><p></p> <p>現地での6日間滞在のうち、最初の3日はラスベガス観光を楽しんだ。ラスベガス・ストリップに立ち並ぶいくつもの超有名なホテル（僕は行くまで知らなかった）のカジノをハシゴしたのはもちろんのこと、ダウンタウンのアーケード街として有名なフレモント・ストリート（Fremont Street）の散策もした。ラスベガスの新しい観光地として有名な Sphere の外観も見てきた。とてもでかい球体だった。</p> <p>ラスベガスは広大な砂漠のど真ん中に孤立して存在する都市である。 そんなネバダ州は核実験場所として非常に適した環境であり、ラスベガス市内にはその歴史を綴っている核実験博物館も存在する。 日本では見れない資料や、第二次世界大戦での日本の降伏に関する資料も置かれていた。やはりアメリカ視点の核開発・核実験の歴史は日本のそれとは全く異なってるなと思った。ナチスドイツが使用した暗号機：エニグマの実物展示もあるとの事前情報を仕入れていたが、もう展示が終わったのか現地になかったのが唯一の心残りでした。</p> <p>ラスベガスの滞在最終日では本物の弾薬でマシンガンやハンドガン、対物ライフルの射撃体験をした。 射撃体験が終わった後に食べたハンバーガーはめちゃくちゃうまかった。</p> <p>4日目にラスベガスを出発し、かつてアメリカ合衆国を横断していた「アメリカンドリーム」の象徴である Route 66 ^{<a href="#user-content-fn-1" id="user-content-fnref-1" data-footnote-ref="" aria-describedby="footnote-label">1</a>} に点在する観光スポットに立ち寄りながら、四方20kmまともな商店が存在しない宿を目指してドライブをした。 キングマンやセリグマンといった比較的大きな町ではいろんなお土産が売っていた。アメリカの貨物鉄道と遭遇したのだが、列車の最後尾から見ると先頭車両が地平線に消えてしまいそうなくらい長かった。これは日本勝てませんわという感想になった。</p> <p>宿に向かう途中スコールに振られながら、バリンジャー・クレーターにも立ち寄った。 今から約5万年前に地球に衝突した隕石によって形成された隕石であり、クレーターの直径は約1.2キロメートル、深さ200メートルである。砂漠の中で一番高い建造物が乗っている自動車なのにも関わらず、雷が近くに落ちているのを見た時は本当にやばいと思った。</p> <p>日の入りに間に合うようにグランドキャニオンに到着できたので、有名なビュースポットで日が落ちるのを見ることができた。 その日は雨が相当降っており、日の入りを見るどころではないくらい絶望的な天気だったのにも関わらず、だんだんと天候が回復して虹を拝むこともできた。日の入りの瞬間も見ることができたので運が良かった。</p> <p>大移動2日目は、グランドキャニオン → ホースシュー・ベンド → モニュメントバレーを見に行った。砂漠ど真ん中の雨が降ることがすごい珍しい場所でスコールに出くわしたが、それがまた良かった。特にホースシュー・ベンドはとても幻想的だった。（柵がないので足を滑らしたら終わり。）天気のいい時にもう一度行きたい。 モニュメントバレー付近の景色はこの世のものではなかった。コロラド高原の広大な大地の裂け目を横目にしながら、赤褐色の巨大な岩盤が剥き出しになっている土地は火星と言われてもわからない。ずっと同じような殺風景が続くのかと思いきや、風化の進度や土地の構成の微妙な差異が長年かけてその違いを大きくした結果なのか、さまざまな様相を見ながら移動ができた。</p> <p>アリゾナ北部からユタ南部にかけてのコロラド高原は、アメリカ先住民のナハポ族の居住地域でもある。ときおり集落が存在していたが、インフラ設備が全く整っていないところでどうやって生活しているのかがとても不思議だった。</p> <!-- ## 出国から現地到着まで ## ラスベガス1日目 ## ラスベガス2日目 ## ラスベガス3日目 ## ラスベガスからグランドキャニオンまでの大移動 ## アリゾナ北部の原風景 --> <section data-footnotes="" class="footnotes"><h4 class="sr-only" id="footnote-label"><a href="#footnote-label" class="heading-link">脚注</a><span class="anchor" aria-hidden="true">#</span></h4> <ol> <li id="user-content-fn-1"> <p>カリフォルニアからノースカロライナまでを結ぶ州間高速道路40号線（Interstate 40）が完成してからは、Route 66 は歴史街道という立ち位置になっている。沿線の町であるKingmanやSeligmanには多くの観光客が訪れる。 <a href="#user-content-fnref-1" data-footnote-backref="" aria-label="本文に戻る" class="data-footnote-backref">↩</a></p> </li> </ol> </section>
